When looking through your closest, does it seem like you have absolutely nothing? The trend nowadays is to simplify, and this might be a trend worth following, to avoid over spending. Below are a few major pieces that every woman needs in her closet:
Basic Black:
It’s true, black is one color that will never go out of style so go for this killer combo:
Black pants: I’m not talking about skinny jeans, but legitimate trousers that are tailored. Pants that fit correctly, will not only flatter your shape, but also give you confidence when working it (maybe not on the runway) but to a nice event.
Black Skirt: One that comes below the knees ladies, not next weekend’s party outfit. A basic pencil skirt is a must have for any future business woman.
Black cardigan: This complimentary article can jazz up a basic top, or tone down a tank for a family affair. Either way this one might keep you a little warmer without completely covering up.
Blouses:
Button-Down: Behold the power of the button-down, one of my personal favorites this little number can be put with just about anything. Tuck it into a high wasted skirt or pair it with a vest to make a bold statement, and show off you curves.
Multi-pattern: Everyone needs a fun shirt that looks impossible to wear. Well, I say, challenge accepted! Okay ladies let’s run through a few scenarios of wearing the right color schemed outfits:
Paisley: So many shapes! Compliment this fun print with some funky jewelry that picks up the same outlines. Pick one color from the shirt, and carry it throughout your accessories. Please, don’t try to wear every color in the print or else you may end up looking like a clown.
Almost Rainbow: First of all I would never advise anyone to buy a rainbow shirt hence the “Almost” in front of that. Most shirts follow a basic color rules, one of the most important is warm or cool colors. A warm colored shirt will have reds, yellows, or oranges, while a cool colored shirt will contain blues, purples, and possibly greens. Make a mental note and try to stick to those same colors when deciding pants or cover-up. There is nothing more unpleasant to the eyes than clashing colors, unless of course you want to look like a rainbow, which is just fine.
Animal Print- RAWR! This one is bold, and should be taken in small doses, in other words a little print goes a long way. Consider offsetting the loudness of the shirt by picking a complimentary sweater that picks up a calmer color in the blouse (i.e. black for zebra stripes). No one wants to be caught in a jumpsuit of animal print, and be mistaken for one!
Pants
Possibly one of the most frustrating articles of clothing to buy; pants are tricky. One tip I mentioned earlier which is worth repeating is the power of a tailor. Tailors may not be magicians, but if skilled enough can make too long pant legs disappear without problem.
Jeans: Okay, this is almost too obvious, but finding a good pair of jeans is just about the best asset to any closet. Watch out for the different cuts: bootleg, flare, skinny etc…
