It’s all come down to this. You have your scantron sheet in front of you, and you look at the question. It looks like it is written in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Seriously, what were they thinking when they put this on the test? Why would they bring up something like it? The professor obviously didn’t think it was worth knowing or he would have brought it up earlier in class. So, there you sit with no idea of what is being asked, much less the answer.
Not to worry though, because you can figure out the correct answer to any multiple choice question with a little bit of work. Just get out your blank paper and get to work on the problem… and you have the answer. You turn back to the page to see which circle to fill in, and find the number you came up with wasn’t an option. You try to go back over your thought processes and see if you went wrong, but can’t think of anything.
Never fear, your impeccable sense of logic can work this out. B looks like it is closest to what you came up with. But wait, you answered B two times in a row before this; there’s no way the test would have three B’s in a row. D also looks kind of close, but you can almost smell the trap. No, D is definitely a trick for the students who just rush through. What about C? No, that can’t be it, you remember the teacher saying as much last week. Who cares how likely it looks, it can’t be true, so stop saying it’s the right one. Didn’t the professor say something about A being his favorite letter? Or is that the old Sesame Street memories surfacing at the most inconvenient time again? Come to think of it, A is a pretty awesome letter. It’s the grade you’re aiming for, right? Definitely A.
Unless it is B. Wasn’t one of mom’s old college stories something about B being the right answer 33.3% of the time? Wait, that can’t be true, remember the article on the internet about C being the best choice? And that place looked professional too, they must know something. Ok, you need to make up your mind quickly. You close your eyes, hoping you have developed psychic powers since the last time you checked, three minutes ago. No such luck, unless it is telekinesis instead of mind reading.
Someone just stood up. They must have answered the question. If it wasn’t that hard for them, how did it get to be such a problem for you? Maybe they just guessed. They have the name ‘Allen’ written on the back of their jacket. That would make the answer A, right? Ok, that’s two signs for the letter A. Let’s go with that. Fill it in, double check your other work, and get stomach cramps handing it over to the TA as you think desperately that it might have been C after all.
