Hale Hall |

This quarter I am taking a History of Africa class for one of my GEC requirements. It is a very interesting class for anyone who is in need of a global history course. However, what is also interesting about this class is that this quarter it is located in Hale Hall. This is the same building that was vandalized shortly after the young black man Trayvon Martin was murdered by George Zimmerman. However, Hale Hall is more than just a building with classrooms; it is also home to the Black Cultural Center here on campus.
Established in 1989, the center is named after Dr. Frank W. Hale, Jr. who cared strongly about the opportunities for minority students here at The Ohio State University. It is one of the few buildings in the United States that has been built with both an academic and a cultural side. The Black Cultural Center hosts several annual events such as the Dr. Martin Luther King Day Celebration, Black History Month programs, and a Thanksgiving Dinner. In addition, the building has several interesting art exhibits and artifacts.
In the past, this article has recommended some of the interesting places in Columbus for students to visit. The Black Cultural Center here at The Ohio State University is certainly one of these interesting places. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to10 PM, Saturdays from 11 AM to 7 PM., and Sunday from 12 PM. to 8 PM. For more information check out the center’s website:
