Corey Kalinoski | Parks and Recreation

Spring is in the air. It’s warm and sunny, and mother nature is calling most of our names to come out and enjoy the good weather. Parks are a perfect place to visit around campus. As an avid skateboarder myself, I decided to check out our very own campus skate park.
Going by the name of Campus Rampus, the park is located off Kenny Road, between Lane and Kinnear. It is on the West Side of campus, near a gym, field, and basketball courts. It is a bit of an adventure for some students to get there. Taking the bus to the Carmack is the suggested route.
As for the quality of the park itself, I would say it is subpar. The ground is rough; you really have to keep an eye out for cracks. The ramps could also use some work, and are in need of resurfacing. The park is large in size and generally not crowded. The mini-ramp may be the most exciting feature this park has to offer. Along with a few quarter-pipes and a street section there is not much else.
As skateboarding along with long boarding can be seen all around campus, I would like to see the university possibly reinvest in this park. With some work, it could be a very nice skate park, and give skaters all around campus a place to do what they like best. If skate boarding interests you I recommend you at least check out Campus Rampus as it is the only skate park within walking distance of campus.
