Moving Out Tips | Dominik Mattioli

Now that students are gearing up to head home for the summer, there are a few things that students should be aware of before they leave their dorms and get ready for summer vacation.
Out of state students should remember to only bring with them the most essential belongings in their trip back home. As an out of state student I found that I had brought a little more than what was necessary in my stay here in the residence halls. So, one of the best things that I did for myself was finding a friend who lived close to Columbus so that I could store my belongings for the summer.  There are also alternative storage facilities that may charge students cheaply for the first month of storage.
Before students leave, they should remember to CLEAN up their rooms. Make sure that everything is swept off the floors and dusted. This includes that candy bar wrapper you may have left sitting on the floor last week and forgot to throw out. Students should also make sure their microwaves and refrigerators are spotless. This means throwing out any food that was bought over at The Marketplace two weeks ago.
Students should also make sure that their room is in order. If you moved any furniture in the beginning of the year, it is best to put it back in the original position that was first put into place.
Before students leave they should also remember to check out at the Neil Front Desk. Fill out all required forms. Students should check their rooms and make sure that nothing is broken when they fill out those room agreement forms.
Also students need to make sure to turn in the key that was given to them at the beginning of the year. The last thing that you need over your summer vacation is a $150 fee for a key you forgot to turn in.
Finally before you move out, make sure that your car or your parents’ car is in the appropriate parking spot so that you can pack your belongings. Parking around construction is NOT AN OPTION. Believe me, the police will ticket you.
