Carrie Fisher, aka Princess Leia

Hello fellow SSPers! We are coming down to the end of the last quarter of Ohio State and with finals fast approaching its important to relieve some stress by attending a few of the great events that are happening around campus this week.
The week starts off with a bang with the OUAB event Science Rules! With Bill Nye the Science Guy! Bill Nye will be presenting scientific information in an entertaining, creative and informative way and the event is sure to be a blast! It starts at 7:00pm in the Archie M. Griffin Ball Room located in the Union. A ticket is required for entry, so if you are interested in going be sure to stop by the Ohio Union Info Center to pick on up. Also on Monday night is a Flute Studio Concert in Weigel Auditorium. The concert costs $4 for student entry and begins at 6:30pm.
There is another musical event taking place Wednesday night. There is a Symphonic Band Performance at 8pm in the Weigel Auditorium that also costs $4 for entry. Also on Wednesday night is An Evening with Carrie Fisher. Carrie Fisher is the actress who played Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies and has written two books, but she is infamous for much more. Fisher has been in rehab and has struggled with trauma, addiction and bipolar disorder.  She is at Ohio State in order to talk about her life, experience and career and to raise money for The Ohio State University’s Wexner Center for the Arts as well as the STAR (Stress, Trauma and Resilience) Program of the Wexner Medical center. The event starts at 7:30 and will take place in the Mershon Auditorium.
Thursday night there is the event Jazz at Mirror Lake. A wonderful jazz performance will be provided by the Jazz Studies are of The School of Music, which will start at 7:30 at the Browning Amphitheatre.  It is a great opportunity to enjoy the weather and the beautiful Mirror Lake Scenery, so be sure to grab a picnic and some great company and head over to the event. Thursday night is also the opening night for the Ohio State’s Department of Dance’s Dance Uptown: Dirt. It is a program featuring original choreography and the dancing will actually be taking place on dirt! The program runs from Thursday to Saturday in the agricultural arena of Plumb Hall, which is on West Campus. Tickets for this event are available through the OSU Theatre Box Office and more information can be found of the Ohio State Department of Dance’s website: dance.osu.edu.
That’s it for this week. Look out for next week’s edition to find out what else is happening on Ohio State Campus!
